2010 Apartments for older people in Hinterfultigen, municipality of Rüeggisberg

The community of Hinterfultigen is trying to solve the problem of the rural community with many older people and few children through a clever strategy. Retirement apartments are to be built in the former school building that is no longer used. 

In order to set up a housing association, variants should be developed as to what such a conversion could look like.

The variant study resulted in three proposed solutions:

1. Installation of a retirement apartment in each of the four classrooms

2. Installation of a retirement apartment in each of the four classrooms and a new building on the vacant field

3. Demolition of the classrooms and two new buildings
